How Poor Posture Can Lead To Backache

The leading cause of back pain is poor posture.
But, in which cases you may be having bad posture?

•    When you are sitting for long time
•    When you are lifting heavy objects
•    When you are standing
•    When you are bending for long time

Now, if you want to learn what bad posture actually represent, you must first understand the meaning of the term lordosis.

A lordosis in an inward curve of the spine, and the inward curve in the lower back is called lumbar lordosis.

Maintaining of the lumbar lordosis in correct form is a CRUCIAL factor for your back health. You need to keep it in its natural form and try not to “loose” it during certain activities.

In which cases the lordosis is “lost”?

The “loosing” of the lordosis occurs when the lower back is rounded (usually when sitting or bending forward) for long periods. In that way, it affects your back and leads to appearance of your lower back pain problems.

How to maintain good posture?

  • Look for the good chairs and good car seats (the one that include an outward curve near the bottom of the seat)
  • If you are stuck with bad chair, add something that provide support for your lower back (for example, firm lumbar roll)
  • Your shoulders must be straight while sitting on the chair.
  • Don't sit too long in one place. Stand up and move across the room from time to time.
  • While standing you must be in straight and tall position, with shoulders upright.
  • Also while standing for long periods, you must shift your weight from one foot to the other.

  • While walking you need to keep your head up, your eyes looking straight ahead and your shoulders properly aligned with the rest of the body.
  • While lying down for rest and sleep it's very good idea to provide support for your neck. There are several well designed rolls for the neck (cervical rolls) which can be of great help.
Remember, the more you can do to maintain proper posture for your back, the faster your pain will go away.
